Overview & Highlights

Nestled in the heart of Paris at 50 Rue Montorgueil, La Grille Montorgueil stands out as a quintessential French bistro that effortlessly blends traditional flavors with creative twists. This charming restaurant invites you to savor authentic French cuisine, skillfully prepared and presented with a modern flair that delights both locals and visitors alike.

From the moment you step inside, the cozy and inviting atmosphere envelops you in classic Parisian warmth. The ambience complements the culinary journey, featuring friendly, attentive staff that guide you through an array of well-curated dishes. Diners praise the sausage and potatoes—a seemingly humble combination that, thanks to the waitress’s recommendation, reveals surprising depth and comfort through expertly balanced seasoning and tender textures.

Standout dishes such as the beautifully cooked steak deliver incredible value, boasting juicy, perfectly seared cuts that melt in your mouth. Equally enticing is their take on traditional offerings like escargot, elegantly transformed with a delicate pancake that replaces the usual green sauce, creating a unique, bite-sized sensation that intrigues the palate.

The menu also shines with beloved French classics like the Croque Monsieur, lauded for its rich, crispy layers and delightful cheeses, embodying the heart of bistro fare. For those with a sweet tooth, the clafoutis offers a comforting end to the meal—light, fruity, and irresistibly satisfying.

Customers appreciate the authenticity and creativity poured into every dish. One visitor highlights the beef tartare’s less finely ground texture, adding a pleasing textural contrast often missing from conventional renditions. Meanwhile, homemade iced tea and frog legs come recommended by others, marking La Grille as a place where adventurous diners can confidently explore traditional French delicacies.

While some minor critiques mention the bread arriving a bit firm or a cold vegetarian pasta salad lacking seasoning, these moments are overshadowed by the overall quality and passion evident in every plate. The bustling location in a tourist-favored neighborhood may influence pricing, yet the value paired with exceptional flavors truly justifies the experience.

Whether it’s your first time in Paris or a return visit, La Grille Montorgueil promises a memorable meal rooted in authentic French tradition, enhanced by inventive presentations and genuine hospitality. It’s a bistro where simple ingredients find extraordinary expression, making it an indispensable stop on any culinary journey through the City of Light.

We loved this place. We were searching for a while to find the right restaurant and were so glad we ended up here. Cosy french atmosphere, really nice staff and tasty food. The sausage and potatoes were not something we would usually try but the waitress recommended it and it was so good! The steak was absolutely brilliant for the price. The only thing that wasnt great was the bread as it was hard, but we were hungry so we enjoyed it anyway. Would definitely return.

Got frog legs and the homemade ice tea. Everything was absolutely lovely! The atmosphere was super cozy. Will definitely come back when I have a chance!

A great bistro! We had high expectations after reading reviews, and we weren't disappointed. Loved the modern presentation of the croque monsieur, and the clafoutis was delicious.

Overall it's a nice place, nice staff, lovely restaurant Food was excellent except the veggie pasta salad, it was cold and bland.

Certainly, a touristy area but the quality of food was still very high. I like their take on the escargot dish and making it the usual green sauce into a pancake to bite into. The beef tartare was also different in that the meat wasn’t as ground as it usually is — which I really liked. Overall, it will be pricey because of the location you’re in. But I will think the price to quality ratio is fair considering the creativity in the dish and the location to just sit, eat, and go people-watching! Enjoy!

I went here for the famous Croque Monsieur and it did not disappoint. It was rich, crispy and very tasty. Friendly waitress too.

A fantastic Parisian bistro. Classic dishes presented in a creative way. A restaurant that can't go wrong. One of those places worth returning to.

What is French cuisine ????????, in your opinion? That definitely isn't the cuisine from the South (where I'm from), even though ratatouille is now famous thanks to Disney. Actually, that isn't any regional cuisine, IMO. To me, it's what you can eat at a brasserie: simple food with simple ingredients and prepared in a simple way (salads , grilled meat , soups, etc.). That's what I look for when I'm in France. That's what makes me feel at ease. That's my comfort food. In one of my last visits to Paris , we were wandering near Les Halles with my family and my son was hungry. He didn't know what he wanted to eat so we went to the first spot we thought he (and I) would like: La Grille Montorgueil. And I was not disappointed: eggs mayonnaise, herring & potato salad , steak à cheval ( beef patty topped with a sunny-side-up egg ), tartare... Can't find anything more classic. Can't find anything more simple. And everything was good. And, since good doesn't have to mean expensive, we paid around €20 each (no drinks, no desserts) for enough food, taking into account that we wanted to have dessert somewhere else. On top of it, as it's customary in France, we got some complimentary bread and, as often, it was great. It's still crazy that I have to mention that, but restaurants charge for bread in so many countries! That will always amaze me. The service was fine and the place looked just as you can expect a French brasserie to look. That makes sense cause this place was founded in... 1904, more than a 100 years ago! That was a fine experience. . . . Quality & taste: 9/10 Quantities: 8/10 Atmosphere: 9/10 Originality: 6/10 Ratio price / quality: 9/10 Service: 9/10 How I felt afterwards: 9/10
